For a country like Sri Lanka, this means higher transportation costs, a spike in the price of essential goods, and increased pressure on our foreign exchange reserves. When the world’s energy heart beats unevenly, the whole global economy feels the pain.






Impact on Labor and Migration

The Middle East is home to millions of migrant workers, including a significant Sri Lankan workforce. Conflict in this region creates immense anxiety for families back home. It disrupts the safety of workers and can potentially affect the remittances that many developing nations rely on for economic stability.

Beyond economics, this tension threatens international shipping routes. Strategic passages like the Strait of Hormuz are vital for global trade. Any disruption here causes delays in shipping, making everything from electronics to food more expensive due to increased freight and insurance costs.
